Samoyed Club of America

Promoting the well being and future of the Samoyed breed.

The official AKC breed club for the Samoyed since 1923.

Showing & Performance

One of the objectives of the Samoyed Club of America is to organize showing and performance events across the country, culminating in the annual event known as the SCA Nationals.

The different event types can be confusing – and not just to newcomers! Below is a basic guide to the different types of events, more details of each which can found in this section.

Showing

“Showing” events are what the name implies: Samoyeds taking the spotlight for the purpose of awarding those dogs whose physical characteristics most closely match the ideal Samoyed breed standard. The two types of showing are Conformation in which adult Samoyeds are judged based on how well they “conform” to the standard, and Futurity in which Samoyed litters (or individual puppies) are judged based on how well they represent the future of the breed.

Performance

“Performance” events feature Samoyeds in action, which can take many forms such as obedience, sledding, herding or pulling (and there are many more).

Working Samoyed Program

The Working Samoyed Program is a credentialing program in which dogs that complete specific tasks or feats – whether within shows or independently – earn specific titles that reflect these accomplishments.

SCA National

The biggest annual event on the Samoyed Club of America calendar is the SCA National show held each fall. Held in a different city each year, the SCA National features a variety of Samoyed Showing and Performance events. In advance of the National, smaller regional shows (called Specialities) are held throughout the year.
